Here at TruVoIPBuzz, I am always on a look out for a new VoIP services that show some promise. The objective is two fold:
- Make you aware of options that you have, and
- Help young VoIP companies to get their feet off the ground.
- Today, let us look at another VoIP startup that seems promising – uVoIPit. uVoIPit is a calling card service that offers great call quality at affordable calling rates. I have been reviewing the service for a few days now and am pretty excited about it. Here’s my review of uVoIPit.

uVoIPit Call Rates
uVoIPit has some great international calling rates. You can find the entire rate list here, but I have reproduced the rates to a few popular destinations below (rates are in US cents).
Destination | Rate | Destination | Rate | Destination | Rate |
India | 0.015 | Bangladesh | 0.033 | Pakistan | 0.05 |
Philippines | 0.09 | Haiti | 0.161 | Cameroon | 0.132 |
Germany | 0.013 | Canada | 0.009 | USA | 0.01 |
Poland | 0.058 | Nepal | 0.055 | Brazil | 0.024 |
China | 0.012 | Australia | 0.07 | Dominican Republic | 0.036 |
As you can see some of these rates are very good (almost closing in on Betamax ultra cheap calling rates). But given the lack of support, incorrect billing, and payment issues with Betamax (not able to use Paypal or Credit Cards), I encourage you to try other more reliable providers. Given the above rates, I would suggest that you consider uVoIPit as an option.
More importantly, you can start your account with a minimum amount of $2.5 only, so there is virtually no risk. uVoIPit only charges for your talk time and there are no hidden charges, monthly account fees, etc. You can use Paypal, eCheck, or your credit cards to recharge your account.
uVoIP Features
In addition to the great rates, uVoIPit offers other features worth noting. You can access your uVoIPit account using any SIP hardware or soft phone. You can also configure the SIP/IAX settings on your mobile SIP client and use it on your smart phone. The SIP settings are:
SIP/IAX Domain : 206.123.101.97
uVoIPit also provides IAX support, you can use the same domain in your IAX domain name.
uVoIPit also provides local access numbers allowing you to use it as a calling card service. Just dial the local access number and follow the prompts and you will be connected to the other party. You can save the numbers that you usually use to make calls so that you can use the PINless dialing feature. You can also follow our tutorial to automate the calling card calling process.
Finally, if you are in one of the countries where VoIP is restricted by your ISP, uVoIPit also provides proxy server to bypass the ISP restriction on VoIP.
Conclusions
The call quality is decent and you will have no reasons to complaint. The service is easy to use and offers lots of options. Although in my tests, I had some problems with the access numbers initially, but then got it working. uVoIPit does not transmit the caller ID on SIP, although it transmits the caller-ID if you use the local access number. Overall it is an option worth considering (considering that you are only risking $2.5, this is a no-brainer).
