For all its great features, the lack of SIP support in Google Voice makes it little less useful. This essentially means that you cannot use Google Voice without using your local cell phone plan minutes, not to mention GV is completely useless on a tablet; unless, of course, you are on iOS, in which case you can use Talkatone to use Google Voice on your iPad or on your iPhone without using your plan minutes.

Talkatone on Android offers all the features that one expects from a Google Voice client. Just enter your GV credentials and you are good to go.

You can enter the number from the dial pad or use your GV address book to make calls. You can also send free text messages (SMS) using the your GV account.

You can also login to your Facebook account and chat or call your Facebook contacts. The default settings should work for most users. However, you can customize the settings to your liking.

The Talkatone Android app brings all the GV goodies to any Android device. The app itself is very stable and provides a good call quality (obviously depends on your network conditions). Talkatone provides some premium options that you may consider, but the free version should serve you well. The app supports landscape mode as well.
